TOP DOG:
Today we inducted a new member to the TOP DOG club! Owen shared all about himself. His family includes: 6 yr old Owen, Mom, Dad and little Stella. He also has a dog, Timmy, and a cat, Sister (yes, it says sister). He told us all about his trips to Telluride, Co and Disney World.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
This morning (8-11:30) was UH-mazing! This group does some great work in the mornings. Not that they aren't hard workers in the afternoon...BUT...for some reason our voice level rises after lunch!
Today for writing we continued to talk about complete sentences and what they need: Subject, Verb, and to make it a GOOD sentence some details. We filled in our tree map with some details.
After we completed our sentences...Community helpers are....Community helpers keep...and Community helpers help...We took it OFF the map and tried to focus our writing. The following example is AWESOME...and don't forget to notice capital letters and punctuation!
Way to go Miles! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that he even remembered to use a pronoun to make his sentences more interesting!
Our poem this week continues with the theme of community helpers...
The pups will be able to partner read this poem and WRITE their own verses!
MATH:
Our TOP DOG was also our meterologist!
A perfect day for playing with a friend! Such a sweetheart! Channel 313 is the BEST news station ever!
We continue to work on describing and identifying coins and their values. BUT today we also, introduced our math TUBS...Place Value, Addition/Subtraction, Journal/Number Sense, Patterning and Measurement! We cannot wait til TUB TIME tomorrow! I love that one of my pups asked, "Are those independent activities or for partners!" Look at that vocabulary!
HOMEWORK:
Problem solving:
1. How many corners are on 2 squares?
2. I saw 2 cats and 1 dog outside. How many LEGS did I see?
3. I have 8 balls, half of them are red. How many are red?
Spelling:
can, for, have, like, said, and, are, the, my, I
SOMETHING NEW:
One way we are able to visually see how loud we are getting!
For all my teachers out there...bouncy balls click for the link! All we need is a computer and a microphone! The pups are using it to monitor and adjust their voice levels independently. I was doing a running record today at the TT. The pups were finishing up their writing and going to workstations...I had one ROCKING out to Pete the Cat at the listening station...(we all know how loud we can be with headphones on) and a friend in the library quietly reminded him, "shhhh the balls are bouncing HIGH!"
With that...have a wonderful evening! Thank you, as always, for sharing your special little PUP with me!
