Did you notice the trees on the pod glass? Teachers and staff who have joined are on owls...as parents join a leaf will be added!! Don't forget to join...there is a PRIZE for the class who has the most participation in each grade level! Room 313 loves prizes!

Thank You

You all are already spoiling me!! Sweet Mayson, I love my flowers and oh darling Micah...not sure how you knew that Sonic DT dr peppers are what keep me going...AND I didn't get a picture of the shiny red apple from precious Justin! (I ate it at recess! YUMMO)

Day One

Yay! Day one was FANTASTIC...
We started our day figuring out how we needed to unpack and get everything where it needed to be! And boy...let me tell you...these little pups were AMAZING! Tomorrow we will practice again...DON'T forget to bring BLUE folders back EVERYDAY...we cannot collect our WOW bucks if we don't have a folder to color in our behavior!
Then we came in and got right to work in our morning "sunshine" folder! (if you haven't had a chance to send in folders please do so asap!)
We had just settled in for a little writing mini lesson...when a little itty bitty paw shot up..."can I go to the bathroom?"...It was about that time so we all headed to the restroom.  By the time 19 little pups had gone to the restroom and had a drink of water it was time to practice lunchroom procedures!
Well, if you're going to practice lunchroom procedures we had better practice recess as well! After practice we had JUST enough time to have a quick writing mini lesson and do a little writer's workshop!  We all drew a picture...We had to include WHO, WHERE and DOING WHAT! I will share some amazing writing soon...I want to have a share time here at school first!
Look...Using the Word Wall!
Jack is done!
SO, that was our morning! Off to recess and lunch we went! (On a Lunch Note...if your child brings money for lunch please remind them to stop in the cafeteria BEFORE coming to class to get that taken care of!)
After lunch we came in and started our first Ready Freddy book of the year!  Freddy seemed to be a new character for most of the pups! We talked about Abby Klein and how she puts the word "FIN" into all of her illustrations! (That's always a big hit with the little ones!) During this read aloud time we go to the restroom in table groups! (lots of trust and they did a great job!)
Math time...Calendar, mini lesson and then exploration of tubs! I asked everyone what they thought a mathematician does..."patterns, add, subtract, measure, sort, use numbers..." UHMAAAZZZing!  We then rotated through tubs and did some very cool mathematician "stuff"

Arabella was counting the letters in the alphabet and represented each letter with a chain link! SO COOL

Micah counted out 50 cubes and found out 50 cubes was NOT taller than her! (later in the rotation she counted out 50 chain links and found out that was WAY taller than her! So she told me that the links must be bigger than the cubes!
Boy do I love when my pups make my job so easy!

Mayson is patterning!

Isabella wanted to show how she could add using the dominoes.
We made a part, part , whole chart!

Samantha and Owen showing their patterning skills using
the bears!

Paige and Catherine combined their chains to make a LONG
one!

Some more patterning and shapes!

Kaleb has a pattern going with bears as well!

Savannah chose to make equal towers of six!
AND each tower has an AB pattern as well!

square!

Triangle

Cameron was making groups of 10!

WE are sorting bears by color and SIZE!

Eliette was showing her adding skills!

After math time it was time for MORE PROCEDURES...pack up/behavior folders and SNACK!
In your child's backpack you will find a blue folder...this is their behavior/Thursday/EVERYTHING folder. It is important for it to be at school every day! Your child will color his or her behavior in the box. (see color chart on calendar for colors) We do not allow for students to EARN back colors...HOWEVER, you might see a +1 (or some number) in that box.  That is for doing something above and beyond expectations! So, if your child is always on green they are still being rewarded for amazing behavior OR if your child has had to move his/her color but then does something great to change that behavior he or she is being recognized for that outstanding change! You will see that green is the BEST color...if your child comes home with blues or purples...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not get to upset! These are just warning and the "normal" first grade behavior expectation!  A yellow here and there...eh BUT if they are in that yellow/orange/red range often then we will need to meet and discuss a different plan of action!

I LOVE MY NEW PUPPIES!
Thank you all for sharing them with me!
