Day 11...

This morning was a SONIC Diet Dr. Pepper kind of morning! Thank goodness it did the trick and the day was WONDERFUL!
I do not have tons of pictures today...sorry about that...but our day was FULL FULL FULL!

Homework

Let's start here...Today your little pup should have brought home a manila poster board.  (PLEASE DO NOT USE ANOTHER SIZE) Along with that poster board there should be the following note attached...

This poster is a family project.  Yes, I would love for my little pup to have some OK... A LOT of say in what goes on it and how it looks! BUT it will also be on display in the classroom throughout the year!  So some family help would be WONDERFUL!  Start teaching those scrapbooking skills!  On the back of the letter you will find the other page.  On the left side are some ideas of what CAN be included on the poster and on the right is a checklist of some things that SHOULD be included!  These are DUE on Sept. 21, 2012!  We will start our TOP DOG the following week! Bringing me to the NEXT part of the project...I will be sending home the following prior to your child's TOP DOG week!  I will probably email it out!  If any of the days need to be switched around just let me know...I'm happy to work with you!
Please don't send anything in until it is your child's TOP DOG week! (I WILL misplace it...I know myself all too well!)  Please let me know if you all have any questions! I will post this information on the homework tab for easy finding!

READER'S WORKSHOP

What an amazing day!  I started my U.S. teaching career in Coppell several years ago!  Until then I had taught overseas for many years!  I had a WONDERFUL colleague there...Mia Bennett.  Well, Mrs. Bennett is a BIG WIG here in FISD now and she just happened to POP in to our classroom today! I had to show her our Language to Literacy Chart (which she introduced to me SOOO MANY years ago) and BOY was she impressed with the responses our little PUPS were able to record today!

So as you can tell we continued with our Friends by Helme Heine BUT today we retold the story in our own words.  It was very important for the students to use complete sentences when telling me what they remembered from the story.  In the beginning....In the end... or in the middle... Everyone had the opportunity to tell me something they remembered happening in the story!
Here's what it says...
In the beginning...
  • Percy and the mouse helped Rooster wall all the animals -Eliette
  • they all set out on their bicycle -Owen
  • Fat Percy and the mouse peddled -Catherine and Jack
  • the rooster steered -Owen
  • down steep hills, through puddles, and up hills  -Owen
  • they went to the pond -class
In the middle...

  • they played hide and go seek  -Justin
  • Johnny Mouse found a boat in the tall grass  -Austin
  • they got on the boat -Miles
  • Fat Percy plugged the hole -Paige
  • and played pirates -Kaleb
  • and conquered the pond -Miles
  • all three were hungry  -Samantha
  • they tried to catch fish but their tummies grumbled and scared away the fish -Savannah
  • they had cherries instead  -Catherine
  • Fat Percy got twice as many, Mouse didn't care but Rooster did  -Micah
In the end...

  • their tummies were full and they went home on their bicycles  -Matthew
  • they invited each other to sleep over but everything went wrong so they had to sleep in their own beds -Jack
  • they said "Good Night" -Miles
  • they dreamed about each other -Isabella
When we finished I asked how many would like to write ALL of that in their response journal...a few said ME ME! (Uh huh...I was thinking not once you start you won't! ) So we talked about how we might be able to simplify  it a bit in our journal but still give enough detail so that we could remember ALL this stuff! We decided a flow map helped us with sequencing...and inside of our map we could use pictures, words or BOTH.  Can I just say UH-MAZ-ING!!!

PLEASE notice we have a DATE at the top of our page!  At least the FIRST page of today's entry! I love how the pups follow procedures so well!

Math

Today we counted by 10's to not only ONE HUNDRED but TWO HUNDRED. Wow...we were really listening for the pattern!  We also did some problem solving.  We talked about number sentences!  Some of my friends were not so sure about the whole number sentence! We'll keep working on it!
EX: David had 2 pink pencils and 4 yellow pencils. How many pencils did David have altogether?
NUMBER SENTENCE answer: 2+4=6

PTA
We had ANOTHER family join!  We are up to 85% only 3 left to go!!! WE CAN DO IT!

T-SHIRTS
We are placing the order this week...We will have them by October (hopefully)
