Wednesday!

DAD'S ONLY

Please come and join us for the Watch DOGS
(Dads of Great Students)
Kick –Off meeting

September 20, 2012                                  6:00 pm                             Robertson Elementary Cafeteria

Today was some kind of crazy...I'm not sure what it was but I think we were all feeling it!  I guess we can chalk it up to a Tuesday (but really it's a Wednesday)

WRITING

Today during WW (Writer's Workshop) we reviewed materials we can use and how to decide if our paper is finished (red dot) or we need to keep going (green dot).  We will continue to build our stamina...until we are writing on our own for about 15 minutes.  At this time, both Ms. Moore and I are walking around and "conferencing" with students as needed.  As time goes on we will be pulling small groups during this time!

READING

Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum...
I am SO sad that I don't have a video of my BLOOMING and WILTING flowers today.  We skimmed over the book again and bloomed when nice things were being said to Chrysanthemum and wilted when sad things were said!  Our little flowers looked so BEAUTIFUL when in full bloom!
We also, brainstormed words that would help Chrysanthemum (or any of us) BLOOM!

POETRY

To go along with Chrysanthemum and being happy with ourselves we added a poem to our poetry folder.

Happy To Be Me

______ is my hair.
______ are my eyes.
I'm ______ years old and just the right size.
My name is _______ and
as you can see
I'm very happy to be
ME!

AND... then we read our poems and shared why we were happy to be ourselves!  We found out that there were other kids in our class that enjoyed some of the same things we do! (making connections with others)
The little ones warmed my heart..."I like being HERE!"
"We are all friends in here...we are like a FAMILY." I've talked about that and to hear them say it makes me HAPPY! Your children are AMAZING.
Tomorrow we will put this poem in a pocket chart and manipulate words to describe our friends!

READER'S WORKSHOP

We are going to introduce response journals next week. So today we orally responded to our books.  I LOVE to hear what kids have to say...We are working on telling why we chose a book and what we liked or learned from our book!

Darrin picked his book because it was "cute" and he learned some stuff about PUPS! Sam liked the scary, green guy!

I LOVE that the kids are able to articulate so much about their books...it's going to make written responses THAT much easier!

SCIENCE

LOOK AT THIS SUPER SCIENTIST...

Owen was SO excited to share his scientist picture from home! (parents...please if you have photos of your kids that correlate to what we are doing at school...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share)

After we talked about this little guy we then went back to our tree map from yesterday and wrote (at least) three sentences about what  scientist can, have and are.  Each paper was different...(a little writing/science integration)

MATH

We continue to practice concepts through our calendar board and station "games".  Today a big topic was odd and even numbers.  Then we played guess my number and Eliette asked if my number was even...it was NOT so she is crossing off all the even numbers 0-20 to help us narrow our thinking!

Then we played build a city (oh boy one of our favorites) and let's get to 10!

Thanks for letting me share another day with your little one!
Enjoy your evening!
