I just logged on and our class has STARTED…we have 2.00 per lap pledged so far. We have pledges from Texas. We are in 16th place overall in the school! · Classroom teachers K-5 will receive 10% of the total $ collected in their classroom
Parents,
The Boosterthon Fun Run kicked off yesterday with a thrilling pep rally and I am super excited about this year’s program. Our team name is SUPER Pups! The Boosterthon Fun Run program involves all students in a fun, team building, fitness event while helping our school raise much-needed funds. The central focus of this year’s character program is CHOICES. On the road of life, there are a lot of choices to make. This year’s character theme is HIGHWAY USA and the Booster Team will take students on a fun-filled journey teaching them the importance of making the choices that count.
Through the Boosterthon Fun Run, Robertson is raising support to go towards iPads for the learning environment and the expansion of our playground.
Here’s how you can help:
1) LOG-ON to your student’s website at www.FunRun.com using your student’s Pledge Book and access code. Log on each night to watch the Highway USA music videos, and enter pledge information.
2) GET PLEDGES by connecting your student with 10 sponsors. This year there’s an ONLINE PLEDGE PAY system. Be sure to capture and record the e-mail address of each sponsor, as they will have an easy opportunity to pay for your student’s pledge by credit card online.
3) COME TO THE BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN NEXT WEEK! Remember, students will be running 25-35 laps and we would love to have lots of support for our team!
For Fun Run times and a video message, go to http://boosterthoninfo.com/robertson-elementary
Thank you for supporting our classroom and our school!
I’ll see you next week at the Boosterthon Fun Run!
Sincerely,
Christine Guy

My Monday...
BUT it's really Tuesday!
What a great day...back in 313 where I belong. I had a wonderful visit with my youngest sister, Sarah and my two (out of state) god children, Thomas (aka Monkey) and Nora Christine (aka Kissi Bug)! They returned to the cold state of North Dakota yesterday and I'm already counting down the days until Thanksgiving break! I will be taking my mom and little Hankers up there for the first part of the week. We are HOPING for SNOW!
I guess the SUPER PUPS (hint of our BOOSTERTHON class name) did not want to meet Ms. Viola Swamp...we got RAVE reviews about our classroom behavior. EXACTLY what every teacher wants to hear. I already knew I had the most UH mazing class this just confirmed it!
So...this morning it took us a little bit of time to get back into the routine but we worked it all out! We needed to be reminded that when there are friends at the TT the rest of us need to use our very quietest voices or none at all...
We started talking about adjectives today and how they make our sentences SPARKLE! When your child is writing please encourage them to use adjectives to describe the nouns in their sentences! We are working on painting pictures in our reader's mind. Which leads right into reader's workshop...creating mental images.
Top Dog Tuesday!
Austin says he wants to be a teacher...LOOK at his MAD reading skills!
Math time today started out HARD...we had a TWO step word problem...WHEW...
Oliver had 11 shirts, Marcus had 5 fewer. How many shirts did they have altogether! If you would like to practice this type of problem...YEAH
Then we had a mystery to solve!!! Papa was missing from the families...so pairs of pups had to figure out what his "name" was and then fill in the houseful of problems!

After math it was time to get ready for BOOOOOOOSTERTHON! It's FUN RUN time!
Your child came home with a Highway USA pledge booklet...PLEASE VISIT Fun Run to start entering your child's pledges. This is the only schoolwide FUNdraiser Robertson PTA will be participating in this year! Please visit the site to see individual prizes your child can earn. There will be a SLIMING of
Mrs. Davis if we get pledges from all FIFTY states! So help us out...Please note as your child begins the process of getting pledges...each child will run between 25-35 laps! There are two pledging options a flat rate (to be paid no matter how many laps are run) and a PER LAP donation and the amount will be determined after the FUN RUN next Thursday!
Have a wonderful evening and start collecting pledges! I'm so happy to be back! LET'S GO SUPER PUPS!

Missing...
my pups...
Let's see if we can get caught up somewhat...A couple of weeks ago Owen was our TOP DOG! I don't believe we got to see his show and tell.
Last week Micah was TOP DOG!
Let's see if we can get caught up somewhat...A couple of weeks ago Owen was our TOP DOG! I don't believe we got to see his show and tell.
On Monday she shared all about herself. We were able to make some connections to Micah and ourselves!
On Tuesday she had us all laughing with one of her favorites...Silly Sally!
On Wednesday, Micah had her Mom, Dad and Grandma here for lunch! She is such a lucky girl!
Yep, mom and dad have homework too!
Mrs. Weiler came in to read a poem all about Micah!
And Friday was her show and tell day and I MISSED it! Boo...(I'll be here next time!)
Micah is a very kind and caring student. She likes to be involved in all that we do in our classroom. We are all lucky she is one of THE PUPS!
Reading:
This week during workshop we have been working on making connections to books we read.
This group is enjoying time to discuss and create ways to tell about the book they read, Stellaluna.
Word work! This small group is working on manipulating letters to make new words in our rime families!
Science:
Oh how we have enjoyed our changing matter experiment!
Lunch in the Classroom:
Arabella and Paige are enjoying some GIRL time in the classroom. WOWzer's store special!
Recess is always (or most of the time) a fun time!
Tired PUPS after recess and lunch. We are enjoying our chapter book time in a relaxing fashion!
Thank YOUS...
The cookies are UH-mazing...I left them intact on my desk as long as possible...but I think it made the pups crazy! Took them home and the boys (and this Kissi) couldn't keep out of them!
Just imagine...coming into work on a Sunday and finding these letters in the writing area! What a GREAT day!

My Eyes are Crossing...
I'm not sure if I'm coming or going some days!
I'm not sure you've ever seen what we do RIGHT when we come into our classroom! You've heard about sunshine folders and we've added word work/spelling practice to our morning routine...then we choose workstations for the day and have a few minutes of self selected reading time! There is no better way to start a day than like this! This is why I love what I do!
Today the our Red Ribbon Assembly (High Flyers Trampolinists) was cancelled...but last minute PTA found us a Magician! Fun Times! Sorry for the quality...I was zoomed in as much as I could and I wasn't that far back!(blame it on camera quality)
Fun was had while learning about character traits!
Yee HAW...I got a short video of our noun sorting activity! (now if it would upload already!)
TOP DOG THURSDAY
I am SO, SO, SO upset with myself... I will not be on duty on Thursdays and today was Owen's special lunch with his Grandma from Idaho! I didn't get a photo! Please see yesterday's video with Grandma Russell! But I KNOW Owen was THRILLED to have you here. Please come back and visit whenever you are in town!
LIVE ON 313...
I PROMISE...I don't make anyone do this that doesn't want to...Our weather man today is a bit shy I think!
MATH
Today we read A Quarter From the Tooth Fairy (little did we know Jack was going to loose his tooth today)! The tooth fairy left a quarter under the little boys pillow...(hmmm? sounds a bit low but hey what do I know?)
He buys a monster from Mary and finds out it's just not a good fit so he takes it back and gets his money back but it's not a quarter it's a nickel and 2 dimes. He does this several times and NEVER gets that single quarter back! We got to see there were a lot of ways to make 25 cents.
Your pup should have a worksheet that came home...we left some blanks to see if there were any MORE ways they could think of to make 25 cents! Try this with a dime...or even a 50 cent piece (for those ADVANCED learners...cause I've got them in here)!
SCIENCE
We did a little assessment to finish up magnets!
Can you identify the magnets?
What are magnets attracted to? (multiple choice)
Diagram or write about another object that is attracted to a magnet.
Everyone did great!
And...
Look what's going on with PUPS outside of the classroom! Thanks, moms for sending these in!
And with those SMILES...I'm already looking forward to tomorrow! But this teacher needs some sleep! Not sure why 2:30-3:00 has been my wake up time the past few days! UGG...Enjoy your evening...Tomorrow is Friday!

Hey, Hey!
So...why do the little kids get to go to the pumpkin patch and not us??? Hmmm? Good questions (I thought to myself)! We can hardly wait until after Fall break...when we get to go to Frisco Fire Safety Town!
This morning we had a GUEST speaker. Mrsl Sonkin came in and talked to us about the Mac Books! It is incredible to me how much 6-7 yr. olds know about technology these days! And I think Mrs. Sonkin was impressed as well!
We didn't get to all of our common/proper noun sort but no worries there...we will continue with it tomorrow! (Maybe I'll even be able to capture some of it on camera!
Today our Tree Map is all about Nouns (people, places, and things) and THEN it is broken down into common and proper...Lots of sorting to do. So far we have boy as a common, person, a school as a common, place, days as a common thing and then Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Legos and American Girl Doll all as proper things! Someone noticed that all of those proper nouns started with a CAPITAL letter! YAY!!! And that's where our lesson ended...we didn't even have that much time to write and get to workstations this morning!
During reader's workshop we started talking about "Needs and Wants". We need: Food, Shelter, Clothes, Water, and (we agreed) Love (from family and friends)! Oh BOY...we WANT some amazing stuff. In our response journals we were asked to draw (or write) about one WANT and to list our NEEDS...and then it was time to head out to our guided reading/workstation rooms!
Why is it our mornings FLY by? And I'm so busy (without Ms. Moore's extra pair of hands) I'm not able to get to pictures and videos! I promis I will try to get some of our readers on video the next few weeks! You will be SO impressed...I know I love hearing them read and use their word attack and comprehension strategies.
After lunch we had...
TOP DOG TIME:
Owen's Mom, Grandma (from Idaho), Dad, and Little Stella all came in to surprise him with a special poem!
The pups gave Mrs. Russell TWO thumbs up on her homework!
LIVE ON 313:
Only in Texas is it warm enough to swim in October!
MATH:
MONEY, MONEY, MOOONEEEE!
Today I gave each pair of pups a handful of coins. They had to graph them...In order to do that they needed to identify each one! After their data was recorded they had to analyze their graph! Then they had to tell the value of each coin and list them from greatest value to least value.
HOMEWORK:
Give your child a handful of (mixed) coins. Have them make a real object graph with the coins. Have them tell which they had most and least of...For those that can do it have them find the value of all the pennies graphed, all the nickels graphed and all the dimes graphed. (Skip counting by 1s, 5s and 10s)
And then it was TUB Time:
Oh man...things got a little LOUD today...the balls were bouncing way to high! I hope we can continue with tub time!
Owen was at Place Value. He explained how he counted his candy corn!
Claire is counting like coins.
TOMORROW:
The High Flyer performance had to be cancelled due to injuries! BUT the PTA is bringing us a magician for character counts! We are PRETTY excited! It will start at 8:30...
And don't forget to wear your favorite SNEAKERS!
We have had such great Red Ribbon Week participation!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Tomorrow is Friday....
Oh wait...today just FELT like it should have been a Thursday! ;) We had a wonderful day in room 313...
But for all of you teachers out there...you know how it is when the administrators are in and out of your room? Well multiply that times three today! YIPPEE for us...with that being said...I am SO proud of the PUPS...everyone worked hard and was "pretty" much on their best behavior! Please tell your pup how proud you are of them!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I just realized this is POST number 500! For some reason I feel like that deserves some sort of celebration!!! PUPS any ideas???
WATCH DOG DADS:
Mr. Gonzales was here today! What a BIG help he was throughout the school AND in our classroom. Sweet Claire LOVED having her Daddy here! (You are welcome in 313 ANYTIME!)
If you haven't signed up yet...please see open dates on the sidebar. If there are not any left or you have questions please contact Mrs. Spiegel in the front office!
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Today we started comparing common and proper nouns. We learned that proper nouns name someone, someplace or something specific and need a capital letter no matter where they are in a sentence!
When we went back to write we were looking for proper nouns in our Community Helpers papers and other writing! I heard lots of "chatter" about whether words were proper nouns or common!
During reader's workshop we finished putting our community flip books together! We will be going back to it throughout the year as we make connections to where we fit and our community fits into this world!
So...going back to having administrators in the classroom...there wasn't a MINUTE this morning to get the camera or video out!
At 9:45 it was time to introduce a NEW procedure...I will be leaving the classroom to do a guided reading lesson with a small group of first graders. Some of the pups will be going to other first grade classrooms for their guided reading lesson (M-Th) and some will be staying in the classroom with a teacher coming in! I know, I know sounds confusing! But ONCE AGAIN all I can say is UH-mazing...I got rave reviews about my pups from the other teachers! It makes my heart smile to be the teacher of such sweet, sweet kiddos!
TOP DOG TUESDAY:
Today Owen brought in one of his favorite books...(He gave us a tease on the puppy blog last night! Telling us how excited he was to be bringing in such a funny book)! Yes DAY! Was super fun...The pups are thinking we need a YES day in 313...(and becuase they are so wonderful...it just might HAPPEN)
MATH:
Okay so now we were FREE from "outside" eyes...(haha) and I was able to get the camera(s) back out! I tried to get Mr. Gonzales doing "Hands on My Head and The Maga Rana" (no luck...)! (But the kids sure did enjoy you joining in!)
LIVE ON 313:
We finished up our coin booklets with the Quarter! And then...it was TUB TIME! Oh, we have been waiting for this day...

LIVE ON 313:
Place Value Everyone's working on something!
How many candy corns did I count?
A finished product...19 candy corns counted...that's 1 ten and 9 ones and that is 10+9=19!
Let's use rods and units to BUILD the number we spin!
Patterning...This one was going through each cube. "AAAAAAAA, BBBBBBBB, CCCCCC"!
Let's record the patterns we make!
Journal/Number Sense...Today's Number! Working together!
Measurement...spin the coin spinner, identify the coin and it's value. Roll the die, draw that many coins and find the TOTAL value!
So...I'm super sad...I didn't get any pictures of my addition and subtraction group...They were back in the writing area working hard on Fact Families, addition and subtraction facts.
I heard so many great observations during tubs that after I thought it would be a good idea to reflect...
Today during math...
- Arabella said, "in addition and subtraction me and Claire did fact families. I realized in the top boxes the smallest numbers together equal the biggest number."
- Claire said, "I saw the Papa number always had 2 digits on the cards I picked."
- Savannah said, "at measurement a quarter is 25 cents. I rolled 5 nickels and that equals 25 cents too!"
- Austin said, "at patterning I made an ab and an abb pattern with 2 colors and an abc with 3 colors."
- Micah said, "at place value we grouped candy corn into 10s. We had 5 tens and that's 50. 50+0=50."
Wow what a day...a WONDERFUL day! I know you are all jealous that I get to hear and see such COOL things from your pups! Have a wonderful evening!
