A PINK EYE
seriously though...we have had several little ones with pink eye.
If you notice any symptoms please address them quickly! Thanks for your help with this...

A WEEK in REVIEW
We have had a very busy week!  Like always we seem to be enjoying our learning time...Measurement, Making Connections, Texas and the Ocean!

This week during science we have been talking about food chains.
A producer is a living thing that makes its own food from
sunlight, air, and soil.  Green plants are producers who make
food in their leaves.

A consumer is a living thing that cannot make its own food.
Consumers get their energy by eating food.  All animals are
consumers.

Math was busy with peRIMeter and area. We measured around the squares on the basketball court and then found the perimeter of the whole basketball court using a LARGE SHAQ size foot!
Yesterday, we found a BUNCH of "shapes" taped to our floor?  And Ms. Woodard asked us to fill them in with some non-standard measuring tools.  Look what we found out!

A Southern Ranch
We read A Southern Ranch this week!  And boy did we make some great connections.  We talked a lot about making connections to other books and to the "world" not just to ourselves!  We also said that good readers need to make connections to help them UNDERSTAND what they are reading!  My favorite connection was..."The text said that roundups are when the ranch hands bring small  bunches of cows to the same spot. Nine or ten become forty or fifty. And then those bunches are brought together and become 600 or more.  When we have round up the teachers bring their classes to the cafeteria and all of first grade gets together with all of Kindergarten and all of Second grade and there is a BUNCH of in there."
Pretty amazing for a BUNCH of firsties!!!
THEM!!!

TOP DOG
Peyton has been a great top dog!  I can always count on him to be my right hand! (passing out papers, line leader, lunch helper...you name it!)
Peyton was lucky to lunch with Grandma and Mom (mom wouldn't let me get her in the picture!) Thanks for joining Peyton and making his week so special!
AND...our favorite day of  the week!!! SHOW and TELL.  Peyton brought in a HUGE collection of Pokemon cards! (They're making a come back...)
