WOW! what a day!
This morning we did our morning work...took a spelling test AND traded our money in at the bank!!! We traded all those 1's and 5's for 10's!!!
When we came back from specials we had to catch up in our calendar notebooks...(three days behind...000ps) We found we were already into a NEW month! From our calendar wall we can tell that today was the 29th day of school. 29 has 2 tens and 9 ones. 6+21+2=29. 20+9=29. 30-1=29
Did you know our class lost FOURTEEN teeth in the month of September? We lost 3 in August...WOW...that's a lot of lost teeth!!!
After Calendar we opened our "star" bucks store. We got to spend our "star" behavior bucks!!! What fun! Some chose to spend and YEP some chose to save...
25 bucks = a sticker, 50 bucks = a special pencil, 75 bucks = a treasure, 100 bucks =shoes off in the classroom for a day, 125 bucks = eat with a friend at lunch, 150 bucks = sit in the rolly chair, 175 bucks = you and a friend eat with the teacher, 200 bucks = a special treat for all the DRAGONS
This is very interesting the first few times we do this! "But I don't have any 5's I can't buy a treasure" "Here you go, I want a pencil" (I am handed 1 star buck or 100 star bucks)! We talk about "0ver paying" and then I will give them money back... And then several will come up and give me 5 tens for a pencil and get upset because I didn't "pay them back"!!! I love the learning that goes on during this time but I have to admit...I have to have an EXTRA dose of patience...before we start!
AND THEN the FUN began...We got to experience a liquid changing to a solid!!! YES...we made Vanilla Ice Cream!!! (and I am so sad that it was so crazy...in a good way...that I didn't get to take any pictures! I think I needed about 5 extra pairs of hands this afternoon) But I can assure you we had lots of FUN!!!
Materials: 2 pint size baggies, 1 gallon sized baggie, 1/2 cup whole milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla, 2 Tbls sugar, 5 cups of ice and 6 Tbls of rock salt
Put the sugar, milk and vanilla in one of the small baggies (close it up good) put that baggie in the other small baggie and close that one. Put the ice and rock salt into the Gallon sized bag. Add the milk mixture bags to the big bag and seal it! SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!!!
We decided that the ice and the rock salt lowered the temperature of the liquid and "froze" it! And then we got a spoon and enjoyed!
We had to say good bye to Gage today! He and his family are moving away! We will definitely miss him!
Have a wonderful weekend!
