Thursday!

Well...here we are...It's Thursday of the first week of school! Where does time go?
Before I get into our day let me do a little housekeeping! Today in your child's folder you should have gotten the "Robertson Round-up", a note from Mr. I (reminding you that tomorrow is the last day you will be able to walk your child to class) and a Spirit Wear order form from the PTA. ALSO...Behavior Folders...We will talk about the first grade behavior plan at curriculum night but I feel confident some explaination is warranted at this moment! Your child brings home a blue folder daily. This folder should come back to school each morning...that is one of your child's responsibility!  If they want WOWS then they will remind you that it needs to be in their backpack. Okay...your child walks into the room each day on GREEN (which means if they stay there all day they will receive 5 WOW Bucks at the end of the day). If I need to give your child a warning (about doing something after being told not to do it) then he/she changes their color to PURPLE (4 WOW Bucks).  If another warning has to be given color changes to BLUE (3 WOW Bucks).  I consider PURPLE and BLUE to be OKAY colors (normal 1st Grade behavior)!!! Everyone needs reminders...I would love for you to talk with your child about behavior but please don't be too hard on them! Now if your child has to have another color change it will be YELLOW (2 WOW Bucks and Reflection Time) YET another color change is ORANGE (1 wow Buck and OOPS note to the parent)  And lastly RED (0 WOW Bucks and an office referral) These colors warrant more serious attention and discussion between you and I!  Like I've said...I will let you know when behaviors are getting out of hand! We do not let the kids earn their colors back in first grade...HOWEVER, you may see a +1 or +2...This is going above and beyond expectations at sometime during the day!  So your child can be blue +1 and will receive 4 WOW Bucks at the end of the day.  I want to praise them for changing their behavior or being extra special good but I also want you to know how many times they had to change their color!

Okay...now on to the fun stuff!
First off I have to show off the treat I got this morning! It is SOOOO cute.  Thank you so much Makenna! Those are NOT flowers...they are cupcakes! How darn cute is that? Made my day!
We are getting so good about coming in, sitting down and getting busy on our morning agenda. Daily starts continue to review geometric and number patterns...BUT we started handwriting as well. We talk about all of our letters having to sit on the bottom line...No "floating balloons" allowed!

We continued talking about rules.  Each student illustrated a rule today and then we sorted them (using a tree map).
The morning ended with...YES...outside recess. We have been waiting to go outside and play!  It was still hot out there though!
When we came in it was math time! We learned to play some math games...(We like dice!) We played Race to Trace, Roll the Die! and Yahtzee!  Tons of Fun...these games will be in tubs that students will be allowed to choose from throughout the year!

Then it was time to make another GRAPH...We had to collect some data and then organize it!  We colored cupcakes and organized them by our birthday months!  We made a PICTOGRAPH!! We have a couple of friends that needed another day to remember which month their birthday is in! We will make observations about our graph tomorrow! You may want to look at it with your child tonight so that they are ready to tell me something!!

Whew...what a day! But we still needed to revisit our science journals! We watched a power point about what "real" science journals looked like.  We talked about the different things that we could put in our science journal! Did you know that we might put GRAPHS in there? (Everyone agreed that it would be okay to do  since we would be collecting lots of data in science.) We will make observations using our eyes, ears, hands, and nose...we can ONLY taste things if it is okay'd by a teacher! We talked about lots of other "stuff" that will go in there as well. We drew an illustration to show what we thought science was and then we needed to draw ourselves as a scientist for our author's page!
Sorry my blogging is so late tonight! I had to rush out after school to pick up my 22 lb Sweetpea (he's my cat) from the vet!  Enjoy the rest of your evening! I'm so enjoying my days with your little ones!  It may be hard to believe but I've seen changes in them already! They are going to grow up so quickly!!!
