Our Dragon of the Week is Noah!
He loves his family, likes to go to Lego Land, plays baseball for the Tigers and has a BIG dog named Hammy. Noah's "Best Buddy" is his Dad...(they have a secret hand shake that Noah wouldn't share with us today!) They like to drink root beer and eat chips when they watch sports! Noah is mom's little angel!!! His smile makes her day!!! Noah is a very special little dragon!

Today was a GREAT day in room 313. We got to check out TWO books from the library. Please take special care of these books and make sure you have them returned to school on Wednesdays! (Our library day if something doesn't come up!) We have a few rules now that we are checking out two books. We are allowed to get one chapter book and one EVERYONE book, or one non-fiction and one EVERYONE book or two EVERYONE books!

We took our math CBA today! It went pretty well!! Yippeeee...first one done only 7 more to go!

Please visit http://www.friscoisd.org/departments/HealthServices/ for more information on the "flu" and Frisco ISD. We are encouraging the kids to wash, wash, wash their hands and use the hand sanitizer throughout the day! Please help your little one stay healthy BUT if they are not feeling well keep them home! Our room is not that big...not a lot of space for all the germs to go!!! :) I don't like when I'm missing little dragons but I'd rather they be sick at home! Just give them lots and lots of hugs from me if they are!

Take care

Star Student for September

Good Evening!
As we were getting ready for specials today a little one said, "Miss Guy, it feels like we've only been in school for like 2
hours!" It did seem to FLY by today. I guess that's what happens when you are having fun! :) I love my job!

Our poem this week:

Fall is here
Another year
is coming to an end.
Fall is piles of crunchy leaves,
orange, gold and red.
Fall is football,
Fall is pumpkins,
Fall is where summer ends.

We will use this poem to begin writing our own this week! So watch the blog for our "fall" poem!

Our spelling words this week are at, like, me make sure you study these nightly. Don't forget to print out Castle Spell A Lot off the First Grade website if you are looking for ways to study. Also, you can try http://www.spellingcity.com/ for lots of fun times!!!

I am so excited about the reading progress I am seeing in this classroom. The kids all have new books this today...I hope you have time to listen to your little one read and praise them for all of their hard work!

Speaking of Hard Work and Enthusiasm! Kirstin T. was our Star of the Month for September. Each month we will be choosing a student from our class to be recognized as the star student. This student will be the one that most exemplfies the quality being studied with Mrs. O'Hearn, our counselor. Kirstin LOVES everything about being in school and learning new things! Congratulations Kirstin!

We continued to talk about equations today. We learned that both sides of an equation must be equal. We also learned that, "the biggest number must go first in subtraction or the answer will be negative." We used our desk to record fact families from dominoes! Be sure to have your dragon show you turn around facts and inverse facts!

On Wednesday we will take our first Math CBA (curriculum based assessment). It will go over much of what we have been doing so far this year in math!

Today we watched a movie about properties of matter! Hmmmmm? What are properties and what is matter! We will definitely find out more about this tomorrow!

Have a great evening!

Okay...I am so sorry I have not updated the blog this week! It has been SO busy and I haven't felt well! I'm feeling MUCH better today...thanks for all the concerns! I have posted a BUNCH of pictures and posts today...please make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom so as not to miss any!!!

As much as I HATE missing school...I will not be in tomorrow. My youngest sister is coming in from N.D. We are going to have special "Kissi and Sarah" time with our nephews! We will take Hank "the Cowdog" to the Fort Worth Zoo and then Jack will have a special night at the theater with his aunties, grandma and JUNIE B. JONES!
Mrs. Berry will be here...many of you probably know her! She will take super good care of my little dragons I just know it! If you need to change the way your child will get home or need to let your child know something in throughout the day...PLEASE call the front office...I will NOT be checking emails. Also, if you could help remind your little one to remember the rules tomorrow! I would appreciate it! I have told them if EVERYONE is on their best behavior I will bring in a treat on Tuesday...I KNOW we can do it! I went over our day with the class this afternoon because it will be kinda CRAZY... OOOOOOHHHH I miss them already!

Next week...
Reading Schema/Visualization
Social Studies Jobs
Writing Ideas
Math Addition and Subtraction
Science Changes in Properties (a VERY special experiment
will be done! Can you guess?
Spelling at, is, me

Okay...well...little sis is waiting for me!! Take care and have an AWESOME weekend.
Monday All about ME!!!
A favorite Book... The Little House

A special lunch with Mom AND Dad.
Our dragon of the week is such a sweetie! She is very kind, caring and smart. She enjoys her family, hunting, fishing and SKEETER her new puppy!
We could all tell how much "Princess BUG" is loved by her parents! They wrote an awesome fairy tale and told us all the things she likes to do at home! Her number one home rule is "JUST HAVE FUN"!

It's College Week!
Librarians have to go to college!

Oooops even college grads make mistakes!
On Wednesday, the Frisco librarian came to talk about her job in the library! We had lots of fun...She read flannel board stories, read her favorite book and talked about some great programs the Frisco Library has to offer kids our age! CHECK it OUT!!!

Wednesday 5 in a Row
UPS check?

I can do it!

So can we!
On Wednesday we continued talking about number sentences and introduced some vocabulary!!! Equations (no one brought me the answer to my "quiz"), addends and sum! Make sure to ask your little dragon to name these parts of an ADDITION number sentence. We played 5 in a row. I rolled the dice under the document camera...these two numbers became our addends and we had to find our SUM on our work mat! We had lots of FUN...
Problem solving...what??? Yep even first graders get to problem solve. We use the UPS check. If you were in FISD last year then you are very familiar with it. If you were not you and your child will BECOME familiar. U means understand, P means to plan, S means to solve and well...check is check! Today we were solving the problem: Marcy had 10 pennies. She spent 6 pennies on a piece of gum. How many pennies does Marcy have left? We understood that we needed to find out pennies are left the information needed was 10, 6 When we see the word left it means that some pennies went away...So our plan or thinking pattern MUST be SWA (some went away) subtraction. To solve we must do 10-6=____. Our check had two tens frames we could use. Most people got 4 but one friend got 3 GUESS what...we have to check at least TWO times...when she used manipulatives to solve she got 4...SO she had to CHECK a THIRD time to find out which one was right. So she drew a picture and guess what she got 4 a second time!!! That MUST be the right answer!

Monday

Let's make number sentences

Addition and Subtraction

Ms. Caras shows us how to do it!

How many all together?

Tuesday

Oh boy...writing number sentences

to and from 10 ON OUR DESKS

On Monday we talked a lot about sentences and what we need to write a sentence. Words, letters and punctuation... But what if we want to write a number sentence that is EASY to read and quick to write? Let's use numbers, and symbols! So...that's what we did! We each had a bag of manipulatives...In groups of two we each grabbed a handful and wrote our number sentences.
On Tuesday, we decided it would be FUN to find out how many number sentences we could make with only 10 manipulatives BUT we had to use them ALL... AND GUESS WHAT? We even recorded our findings on our DESKS... So much FUN!!!
We discovered a lot of equations using our manipulatives...however, of course, Miss Guy didn't give us ENOUGH time...So time was up the kids started calling out equations while I recorded on a tree map. Once we got going someone said, "well, I don't actually have this one on my desk BUT I see a pattern and can just tell you one!" WOO HOO what awesome first graders! We found 0+10=10, 1+9+10, 2+8=10, are you starting to see a pattern? Play this game with your first graders...give them a set number of manipulatives and see what they come up with! BUT wait...we found some subtraction problems as well...10-0=10, 10-1=9, 10-2=8 YET another pattern!!! When we had completed my little dragon friends told me that the opposite of addtion is subtraction, there are turn around facts on the addition side and the subtraction side is the inverse of the addition! SUPER COOL
To top it all off!!! MR. I was in our classroom to observe this wonderful learning!

I really have lots to tell you about...BUT still have this cold, got a flu shot after school then a meeting and now I just want to eat my snickerdoodles and watch t.v. I will catch you all up tomorrow! Have a great evening!

Good Afternoon! Day 20...WOW

Homework for tonight...
Everyone has a new book to read!
Spelling: are, like, in

Today we all got new books in guided reading! What fun. Everyone is working at different levels...however, we all want to be accurate, fluent and understand what the story is about! Everyone should be able to be successful with the book that is sent home. Remember there is help for you, the parents, on the outside of your child's folder. I will also be giving you a handout of how to work on comprehension at conferences! It is so much fun to hear, "I'm gonna read this everynight AND in the morning!" The excitement is contagious!

We visited our blog today during snack time. We listened to our reader's theater and posted some comments... Please be sure to check them out! We WOULD love to hear your comments as well! We will be checking the blog periodically for comments and to listen/read what has been posted! I really want this to be an interactive tool between you and me as well as between you and the kids not to mention between the kids!!! So, surprise your little dragon with praises as well as letting them comment on their friends accomplishments!

In math today we started talking about addition and subtraction! What do we need to make sentences? "Words, letters, puctuation symbols" Woo Hoo...Can we write a sentence about math? Yes...Three plus five equals eight. Wow...that took along time. Do you think there is an easier way to write "math sentences"? YES...what should we use? "Numbers (numerals)and symbols" Good ideas! Let's try it. 3+5=8. AWESOME that was so MUCH faster and now everyone can read it! We will continue to call these number sentences for now! Does anyone know what vocabulary word we might use for number sentence? If your child has a guess...please have them write it down with their name on their guess and turn in tomorrow!

Our wonderful counselor Mrs. O'Hearn came in today. She talked to us about the importance of going to college!

Thank you Gage for a WONDERFUL week! You are a special little boy!

AAAUUUGHHH...I am so frustrated! They reimage our computers every summer...No big deal I know it's coming so I make sure everything is on my external hard drive or somewhere the reimaging isn't going affect. WELL...we came back to find our icons are itty bitty (I know my eyes are a year older BUT REALLLY?) So, our tech person, showed me how to make the icons bigger but when we did that a majority of the icons changed to the white piece of paper with the big blue e on it! WELL...now...not only are my eyes another year older I am a VISUAL person and need my icons!!! So, finally today I put in a helpdesk and they came and "fixed" my problem...How? Well...I'm pretty sure they reimaged my computer and now I have no pictures...of the year...I will try to pull them off the blog...all my setting are changed...

Enough about my problems! I think I can let it go now!

Next week is week 5! How crazy is that?

Reading: Schema

Social Studies: Responsibility/Authority Figures

Writing: Ideas

Spelling: are, in, like (feel free to study with your child before the

pre-test

Math: Patterns in Numbers/Addition and Subtraction

Science: Sorting based on properties and patterns

I was so impressed with our spelling progress this week! I can tell many of you are studying those words! It is good practice for next 9 weeks when there will be 10 words!!! I have also seen a huge improvement in using these spelling words in our writing!

We had a great time this morning with our 5 senses bags! Thanks to all of you that sent those back for today's activity! There were some GREAT senses clues...We were able to guess a lot of them but not all! We were stumped on "minty gum", the pear, the kitchen timer, and sunflower seeds! Great JOB you guys. This activity was great not only for the 5 senses but also for oral language development!!!

We recorded one of our reader's theaters today! Hopefully, I will be able to, once again, figure out the technology and get it uploaded to share with you all! Great job, Manas, Lucy, Blake, Gage and Kaitlyn!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! I will have had time to get over my computer frustration! Looking forward to seeing all of my little dragons on Monday...Oh! FYI I will not be in school on Friday! My youngest sister is coming in from North Dakota. We will be spending the day with my youngest nephew, Hank and the Zoo! So...please talk to your dragon about being on their BEST behavior for our substitute! Thanks so much!

Our day FLEW by... We completed our morning agenda and then we had to do some social studies. We are talking about ourselves in the past, present and future! We brainstormed (what kind of map did we use?) lots stuff we remember about our past, what is happening to us now and what we think our future will be like! I can tell we are going to have some awesome writers this year!
Tomorrow we will take a few ideas from our map and put it onto a tree map. Then we will be able to create our timeline flip book...using our past and present photos that have been sent in!
Unfortunately, we had to have YET ANOTHER inside recess. It did allow us a few more minutes of Social Studies as we watched a short video on Good Citizenship. Then we were off to play some games! (We are asking for donations of "gently used" games and puzzles to be used during inside recess) Gage had a special lunch visitor for his Dragon Week! Thanks, mom, for coming!
We came back...listened to some Junie B. (Dallas Children's Theatre is presenting Junie B Jones Monkey Business if anyone is looking for something fun to do with their First Grader...I'll be taking my 1st grade nephew Jack next Friday evening...WE are so excited!) Then it was time for calendar a little math lesson on Even Steven and Odd Todd and it was time to pick up!
We headed down to the cafeteria to see author/illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka! We found out that he has been an author and illustrator since he was very young (in elementary school)! He has been a published author for about 8 years now! After deciding to be an author he tried, for several years, to get published...He was rejected MANY, MANY, times! But he didn't give up!

plus one number chart
Tuesday: My book Naughty Little Monkeys

Monday: My All About Me Poster

Hello!!!

Another busy, busy day!
A couple of reminders:

Reading Folders: Reading folders need to be returned each day. Please listen to your little one read, sign that he/she has read and then return the folder to backpack!!! Even IF (which shouldn't be the case) your child does not have time to read that night the folder needs to be returned the following day!

Math Homework: Okay...I sent two papers home today! Topic 2 is a game that you can play with your child and keep at home! Topic 2-1 is the page that needs to be returned COMPLETED tomorrow! However, the front page does not give you all the numbers you need to complete it! Please pick numbers that you feel your child can handle!!! If this is too confusing then you may SKIP the first page ONLY!!!

Guided reading is going well. We have several different books and reader's theaters going right now! Please remember at this point your child will have the same reading all week. As we become more fluent, accurate and increase our comprehension the reading lessons will change.

Not only did some groups read today but they did a little bit of guided writing as well. We were able to identify some of our spelling words in our text and practice spelling those! (I will share writing notebooks at conferences...these will not come home on a regular basis as they are needed for lessons throughout the year!) The groups that have reader's theater scripts will work on these throughout the week and will podcast them when they feel comfortable!

So...today Gage brought in the book Naughty Little Monkeys to share. Lots of little dragons enjoyed the book. "Miss Guy, it's like the David book where he gets gum all over!" said Joel. (great text to text connection)

Wow!! FUN TIMES in Math today...first we decided that the BEST way to "build" a number is to make groups of tens and ones (left overs)! WELL... once we decided on that we moved to a place value work mat. Everyone had a tens and ones work mat...Miss Guy said, "plus one" everyone added one cube to their work mat...we all said, "I have 0 tens and 1 one my number is 1"...all the way to 9...when I said plus one the next time we had to group our "left overs" into a group of ten and move it over...So now we said, "I have 1 10 and 0 ones" While we were building our numbers Miss Caras was recording what we were saying (see number chart above)! Tomorrow we will play plus one again...However, I will build the numbers under the document camera and the students will fill in their own chart! We will then begin to look at number patterns! We will keep our number chart going through out the year! So I need your help. I need a cardboard paper towel roll from each of you! We will store our number charts this way. Please send this in as soon as possible!

We reviewed our five sense today and made a flip book to add to our science journal. We wrote about things we liked to smell, taste, feel, hear and see...Some got creative and wrote about things they hated to smell, taste, feel, hear and see! Tomorrow we will find out what it's like to lose one or more of our senses!

Have a great evening...Don't forget Math, reading and spelling homework tonight!

Monday, September 14, 2009

Day 15!!!
We had an AWESOME Monday morning...We all worked so hard and quietly that everyone got a PLUS ONE in their behavior folder! The first number shows you if your child got any checks or made some "not so good" choices the + means that they made some "above and beyond great choices"! Please praise your little dragons for exceptional behavior.

Gage is our first Dragon of the Week! We are looking forward to learning a lot about our friend Gage. He presented his All About Me Poster today. We found out that his favorite foods are: rice, hotdogs, pizza and Cheetos.

Thursday is Constitution Day! In preparation our poem is We the Kids (the preamble to the Constitution of the United States) illustrated by David Catrow. We will talk about the "big" words in the preamble throughout the week.

We took our spelling pretest today. Our words for the week are: and, I, have. Please see our first grade website for ways to practice these words. We uploaded the Castle Spell A Lot file. I will be sending one of these home as well for you to have on hand! We will take our spelling test on Friday.

We really started getting into place value today. We read Fair Bear Share to get us excited about numbers and building numbers. We were then paired up and played Grab and Build. We grabbed a number and then tried to build it with our cubes. Today everyone was encouraged just to "build" the numbers. We had groups building in different ways: piles of loose cubes, one long train and even groups of 1o's and 1's! Yay...some were thinking this was the quickest and easiest to count the number we built! We will continue with this activity tomorrow. We will take it to the next level by grouping our cubes into 10s and 1s... on our work mat. We will record our numbers and look for patterns in those written numerals!

Science was EASY...we talked about our 5 senses. Tomorrow we will record what our 5 senses are in our science journal. And begin an experiment! Exciting times in room 313!

Guided Reading folders were sent home with almost everyone. If your child did not recieve one today he/she will get one tomorrow! Please remember the same book may come home for several days! Please keep reading it at home. We will be doing different activities at school with the book! Remember...accuracy, fluency and comprehension are what make us GREAT readers! So many happy little faces when they are successful at reading! Several came back today telling me they couldn't read...then we started and their faces LIT up as they looked at the pictures and found out that the words matched what they saw in the picture. Connections were made from the spelling test to their reading books as well! Please read your child's folder. There are some strategies for you, mom and dad, for what to do if your reader makes a mistake and what to do if your reader gets stuck!!!

Have a wonderful evening! Tomorrow will be our first night of math homework!!! I hope everyone is getting that homework routine set!

Friday, September 11, 2009

It is Friday! Wow...I will be honest...I'm looking forward to the weekend! It was a packed "short" week!
Lots of stuff coming up:
Next week:
Language Arts: Schema, Good Citizenship, Writer's Workshop, Identifying Sounds and Building Words, Reader's Theater, Guided Reading
Spelling: and, have, I
Math: Place Value
Science: Five Senses

Be sure to ask your little dragon about "the bank" today. We emptied out our money boxes and put it in groups of ten today. We then traded all the fives and ones for 10's! Question: is 14 5's the same amount as 7 10's? YES...70.00 is 70.00. How many 10's should I get for 50.00? How many 10's are in 40?

We had our first Robertson Round Up of 2009! The Cha Cha Slide (always a favorite) , The Grand Ole Duke of York and "ToeKnee Chestnut" were all performed! We celebrated August and September Birthdays with pencils and the limbo! And closed with our school song! Our next round up will be September 25th! Feel free to join us if you are available!

Well, I guess I'll leave so that I can be back here tomorrow morning! Mrs. Williams and I will be updating the First Grade Website...we will be adding ways to practice spelling words and other homework "goodies"! Don't forget "official" homework begins next week. Your child will start to bring home books and math work! Please try to have a specific time and place for homework nightly! Setting up a routine now will make it much easier as the homework takes more time!

Have a wonderful weekend! I am so happy to have your children in my class! AND thank you for all of your continued help and support.

Some things that came home today. The Five Senses Bag is NOT DUE until Friday, Sept. 18th. Please do not send in anything alive or perishable!!!

Also, the pictures for Social Studies are not due until Thursday, Sept. 17th. However, if you have them please send them in a label envelope!

Thanks to all of you that have sent in your white undershirts, paper towels and baby wipes!!! Please get those in as soon as possible!

The classroom needs list is on going and we will accept anything on that list anytime! THANKS SO MUCH TO THOSE THAT HAVE HELPED OUT...

Language Arts: We are working on schema and making connections to books that we are reading. Yesterday we read The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant (awesome book and caldecott runner up). Our connections chart goes like this...When I read or When I saw... It made me think of ...
Here are some of our connections: "When I read, "with all that new breathing"... It made me think of my dad snoring!" When I read, "they left Virginia"...It made me think of moving to Virginia where my other Nana lives." "When I read, "they stayed a very long time...It reminded me of my "sister" (exchange student) staying here." We will continue to make connections to self, the world and other text or movies throughout the year! Always encourage your child to do this with books that you are reading at home! They think its a game and they get really good at it...Building lots and lots of schema!

Social Studies: We read about two great women today...Elenor Roosevelt and Elvia Niebla. We then compared and contrasted these women on a Double Bubble Map. Similarities: authors, good people, like learning, and helpful Differences: Roosevelt-dead, honest, born in New York, helped people Niebla-alive, born in Mexico, helped the environment, scientist

Homework for tonight is to think and talk about these two women and decide which one your child would most want to be like! Tomorrow your child will write a short paper on which one they would want to be like and why!

Math: We are continuing with comparing and ordering numbers 0-25. We have been introducing math tubs as we go along. Please see pictures. Lots of learning while working with our friends! We are using our Count and Color, More and Less, What Comes Next, and Fill in the Shape tubs. It's amazing how much learn can happen with a die, some cubes, tiles and paper! I promise I am going to record a session soon so you can be a part of our lessons! (Still trying to get into that routine)
Science: Boo Hoo...we didn't get to science today because of the fire drill and computer time...BUT we continued to talk about our experiment. As you can see from our pictures we all enjoyed testing our hypothesis! I even heard some of you tried this at home! WAY TO GO...bonus points for you!!!
"HEY gas is moving them up and down, NOT the gas you put in your car!"
-manas
"Look it looks like they are jumping!" -Brista
"Mine is not doing anything. Is it going to move? Why didn't mine work?"
"What would happen if we put the raisins in water?" "or milk" "or juice" Already thinking like a scientist...I wonder what would happen!
Hopefully you all are ready for another weekend. I can't believe it is Friday tomorrow...

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Oh my...Today was such a great day...and I promise I will share with you all pictures and quotes from our science lab! However, it's 5:30 and my head is pounding! I need to leave for today! Sorry friends...more to come soon!

The day started with a BANG...All About Me posters, baby wipes, paper towels, t shirts and a lot of, "Miss Guy! Miss Guy! Miss Guy where does this go?" AAAUUUGHHH what was I thinking? I guess I didn't expect the overwhelming (quick) show of support! Thank you...to those of you that brought in supplies, extras and homework! Like I said before...I can tell it's going to be a great year...You guys are on the ball! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. We even had another send in PTA dues! You guys ROCK...
So...we get all that taken care of settle into Daily Start and Morning Agenda (some kids working on istation) and I feel like GREAT...everyone knows what they are doing I can get some assessments done! By that time I look up...the clock says 7:30...SO...now to top everything off...we don't have a clock in our room that works! Put that on my list of things to get fixed...(by the way I had changed the batteries TWICE already).
So, again, I start assessments and YEP you guessed it Mrs. Davis walked in saying it was our TURN for the bus evacuation drill! So we clean it all up...head out to the bus...WHAT? they have turned the things off...Man it was HOT...We found the 3 types of exits (front/back doors, windows and roof top) We did a rear door evacuation...SIT and SLIDE, climbed back on, learned how to open the front doors and set the brake...Got back off and headed back inside...But NOT before one of our little dragons asked a MOST EXCELLENT question, "What happens if the driver is unconscious and can't get off the bus?" Wow, what great vocabulary!
We came in had time for one literacy station and then it was time to head outside for recess! A favorite time for everyone (well...maybe not the teachers when it is so HOT outside!)
After lunch we read a couple of chapters in our Junie B. Jones First Grader at Last and discovered that Junie B. needs glasses...A self to text connection was made (what awesome schema) one of our dragon friends was going to the eye doctor today!
It was finally time for calendar notebooks and math time! Calendar is going smoother and smoother each day! I love listening to the kids and their thinking/learning! Today we really noticed what "place value" is. We have one sticker card (10 stickers) in the 10's place and 1 sticker in the 1's place. "There is one group of ten in 11 and 1 left over one." "That makes it ODD Todd." "That's because 10 + 1 equals 11." So much learning from one calendar time! I LOVE IT!!! We talked about our weather graph and noticed we've had more HOT (wow there's that word again)...than warm days. So there must be less warm days than hot days. How can we figure out how many more hot than warm? 3-2=1...There is one MORE hot day or one LESS warm day! Bigger Smaller Difference. (in ups check lingo)
Speaking of more and less...it was time to HIT THE ROAD...each child was given a die and a road paper (see pics). Well...let me back up. We observed our die and noticed, "dots (also known as pips), flat sides, numbers..." BUT guess what we DIDN'T find on that die? WINGS...I explained that since there were no wings the die were to remain on their desks not "FLYING" across the room...Each student then rolled their die and put that many "cars" (unifx cubes) on the road. They rolled again and put that many "cars" of a different color on the road. Then the students were to move the cars down to complete the sentences.
Well...since we had dice out...I figured now would be a GREAT time to practice our number writing. So...we played RACE TO TRACE...each student rolls their die and traces over that number on their recording sheet. (in red folders today) When they had traced all the numbers they were to put their heads down...EVERYONE was a winner and made a trip to the treasure box.
On to SCIENCE...yes, it's a favorite! Experiment Day! The scientific process at it's best!
Title: Dancing Raisins
Question: Can raisins really dance? Does liquid help a raisin jump? How can I make a raisin dance? "Wate would hapon if we pout a riasin in 7 up?"
Hypothesis: (yes it's a big word...but we all had fun saying it) Our guesses...(see our graph above) And I might add everyone danced to place their hypothesis on the graph...So much fun in FIRST GRADE!
Some comments..."There is NO way a raisin can really dance!" "There are so many float guesses, it's going to float!!!" "I think it will stay up because it doesn't weigh anything. The sprite is so heavy it weighs like FIVE pounds!"
More to come with this experiment tomorrow!!!!
Pack up...eat some snack...go to specials...go home! WHEW...what a day! Miss Guy is tired! But SO looking forward to tomorrow! Never a dull day in room 313.
Please see what supplies are need by all children and send those in ASAP...Also, if anyone can help with the classroom needs...I would be VERY appreciative!
