Identifying and working with your child’s math learning style

Work beside your child as you both discover new ways to approach math learning and homework. This workshop is for you and your child. Come play interactive games and learn strategies with your child that will help build number sense in arithmetic. The seminar will cover:

Discover your child’s learning preferences
Discover your parent teaching preferences
Avoid the daily mistakes that add time, hinder success, and create pain in math
Easy and fast strategies to increase motivation and confidence in math
Specific Arithmetic strategies in --
Addition and Subtraction
Multiplication and Division
Number Knowledge and Counting

Tamara Thompson, M.S., is an educator with over 10 years experience teaching children, youth, and adults. She is committed to making a positive and significant difference in the way we approach learning and student achievement. Tamara began teaching during graduate school and has taught at both the collegiate and secondary level. She has received numerous awards for her teaching. Tamara was the 2002 Austin Area Charter School’s Teacher of Year and in 2003 was chosen as a one of ten teachers among 180 YouthBuild sites to receive a YouthBuild USA Teacher’s Fellowship. She is the recipient of the Michael Jordan Foundation grant for innovative science curriculum and the Southern Poverty Law Center's Teaching for Tolerance grant.

Tamara is and educational consultant, a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction at University of North Texas, and owner of Mockingbird Education. Since 2001, Tamara has trained thousands of educators, parents, and students, serving over 50 schools in 35 states. Tamara resides in Frisco, Texas with her husband and two sons. An active community member with interests in community involvement and youth advocacy, Tamara serves on several local community boards and advisory councils.
