WRITER'S WORKSHOP
READER'S WORKSHOP
Today was our last day of Friends by Helme Heine. We have listened to and talked about the book several times this week. We discussed the fact that each time we learned or observed something NEW! It's okay to read a book LOTS and LOTS of times! Today we still had some questions about some of the words. I labeled my page Vocabulary. "Who knows what vocabulary is is?" "It's WORDS!" Love that answer! (I wish I could give credit to my smarty pants pup...but I can't remember who said it!) So...as we read the story if there was a page that had a word we were confused about we flagged it with a post it (so we didn't have to interrupt the flow of the story)! When we finished we went back and found the confusing words. We found there were several ways to figure those words out! We could ask a friend...UHM my "hammy" pup knew the meaning of strutted alright!
We decided strutted means to walk in a "cool" way. We also reread the part with the confusing word and replaced it with a word we thought might fit...Discovered: Mouse found an old boat. "YEP, I think discovered means to find something. The picture might help us figure out a word as well...Tiller: Mouse jumped on the tiller, Charlie Rooster spread his wings as the sail and Fat Percy plugged up the hole in the bottom of the boat. Well we decided that everyone had a job. Hmmm I wonder what that tiller was for? The wind in the sail made the boat go, plugging up the hole kept the boat from sinking, "I wonder who was steering the boat?" someone asked. "Do you think maybe that was Mouse's job?"" Well you can paddle the boat to steer it." was a response! So...we liked that idea...and decided a tiller was used to steer a boat!
MATH WORKSHOP
We start our math time with a lot of movement around the calendar...part of that is the weather! Look at THIS magnificent meteorologist!
Live on channel 313...at 12:30!
AND THEN...
Place Value practice!
Not only did we work with buttons but we practiced "ringing" sets of ten!
And with that...my day is DONE! Thanks for sharing your sweet little pups... can't wait to see them tomorrow! Don't forget ID numbers, library books, PTA memberships...
