Wow…your kids are officially First Graders! What wonderful day we had!!!
Our day started off with a writing activity. It was (or should have been) a review from last year! The kids are to draw a picture making sure there is a character, and event and a setting. After drawing then they write 1-3 sentences telling about their picture! We had some independent writers today! YAY
We then started learning our classmates names and a little bit about them!
Our read aloud today was The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, an “old” favorite. We did some pair sharing during our read aloud! We discussed why Chester went to school at NIGHT! I heard many great discussions. In the end we decided that since Chester is a raccoon he is nocturnal therefore he sleeps during the day and goes to school at night! GREAT vocabulary!
We made someone special that was missing US a kissing hand card!
Then it was time to go to recess and lunch! Recess was H-O-T and lunch seemed to be rushed!
Math time: did a little problem solving by acting it out! We had to figure out how many boys and how many girls were in the class. WOW! I had the boys and immediately they said we need to get into groups of tens…so that’s what we did…and low and behold we had 2 groups of ten and that means we have 20 boys! The girls on the other had got in one big line and counted off. 23 girls! In order to figure out how many kids are in our class altogether we decided it would be best if the girls got into groups of tens as well with 3 left overs! We counted by 10’s and then 1’s 43 kids!
I noticed on one of the forms I have a little one that wants to multiply this year! Well…we did it on day one! 4 groups of 10 is 40!!! WOO HOO
We also made a picture graph of our birthdays. We made predictions throughout the graphing process and found out that September has the greatest number of birthdays and May has NONE at all!!!
And after that…well…it was time to go over packing up expectations, eat snack and go to specials! While eating snack we did a little reflection of best and worst part of our day! Lot’s of recess what to hot! Best part of our day was… EVERYTHING ELSE!!! What a wonderful bunch of little puppies! I am looking forward to this year even more than you can imagine! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this class…and team teaching with Ms. Woodard is FANTASTIC!
