Well...we are well into our Author study of Marc Brown. We are doing a lot of reading in our classroom...I will be sending home the script for Arthur's Thanksgiving the end of this week. This will be our guided reading for the next couple of weeks! We will be focusing on voice, expression, fluency and delivery!
This week we are working on learning Arthur's theme song.
"Every day when your walking
down the street and
everybody that you meet
has an original point of view.
And I say, Hey! (hey!)
What a wonderful kind of day
if we can learn to work and play,
and get along with each other.
You've got to listen to your heart,
listen to the beat, listen to the rhythm,
the rhythm of the street,
open up your eyes, open up your ears,
get together and make things better
by working together.
It's a simple message and it
comes from the heart, oh
believe in yourself.
For that's the place to start.
And I say Hey! (hey!)
what a wonderful kind of day
if we can learn to work and play
and get along with each other.
Hey! what a wonderful kind of day.
Hey! what a wonderful kind of day.
Hey!
On Monday we all gathered to watch a vodcast by Marc Brown himself.

...and here he is!

Off to the library for Arthur station rotations.

The REAL Arthur!

Arthur is an aardvark.

Arthur's "look" has changed over the years!

Emily seems to be our Arthur EXPERT.

Here are some of the similiarities and differences we notice!
We've got our characters and our setting...now lets see what can h appen!

We're learning to draw Arthur!

PBS.com has lots for us to learn about Arthur.

Woo Hoo...look at that!

Looks AWESOME!

Emily shows off her knowledge of the "other" characters!

Randi wants to get it JUST right!

Today we watch Arthur's Teacher Troubles...OH NO...Arthur is in Mr. Ratburn's class. Did you know that Mr.Ratburn is inspired by Brown's 7th grade Alegbra teacher? He was VERY STRICT... When asked what strict was..."MEAN and SCARY" were the answers I heard the most. But then we started to sort Teacher Qualities and we decided that a strict teacher might be better than a lenient one.
Our tree map goes something like this...
Good Qualities: strict, friendly, hard working, fair and knowledgeable
Not so Good Qualities: lenient, mean, lazy, unfair, uneducated
I guess, you be the judge!
Tomorrow we are going to read D.W.'s Lost Blankie, work on retelling and make a game to help us remember the story!
Have a great evening!
