It's Wednesday!
Thank you, Trenton, for the healthy snack! I really enjoyed my apple today after school!
Another busy day in room 313! Today for we really started looking at our names. We played a couple of games so that we will soon be able to recognize everyone's name! NOW...DO NOT judge me on my singing!!! Tomorrow I will definitely record the kids so you don't have to hear me! LOL (click on the player
under the picture to hear our song!) Better yet have your first grader sing it for you! This is the type of
activity your child will find when they start going to the ABC station! After singing the song with all the kids names in different places...we then talked about ABC order. The students were asked to get in alphbetical order using the first letter of their first name. I then added everyone to our word wall! Our first 20 word wall words! We then used our friends names to complete a cloze activity...everyone got to finish a page with a friends name and illustrate it! That was pretty much our morning! Time FLIES when you're having fun! I'm not sure how many of my little ones agree that the time is flying!
After recess/lunch we were VERY excited about going to library. (Our library day is Wednesday 11:45-12:15ish) We met our new librarian, Mrs. Beamonte! She read us a story about a pirate bunny! And then she showed us how to use our shelf marker when choosing a book! We were only allowed 1 book this week...WE need to show Mrs. Beamonte that we can be responsible and have our books back next Wednesday! Your child will not be able to check out another until this one is returned! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help your little one remember to bring it on Wednesday. It breaks my heart to see those tears when I tell them they will not be able to take another book home!
MATH TIME: focusing on identifying, and ordering numbers 0-25! Each student was given a number card. I called students up in random order and it was their job to put themselves in order from Greatest to Least...and then from Least to Greatest! Someone had a very good idea to draw circles as picture clues in case we forgot which way we were going!
I wonder what numbers the BOYS have? |
I think they look like a pretty smart crew...sure enough they were in the correct order. We also noticed that they were in order from tallest to shortest! What an awesome connection!
This group did an awesome job of working together! And they got it JUST RIGHT!
I almost forgot we played I have...Who has... again today but we just missed our two minute goal! 2:15... Hopefully tomorrow will be THE DAY!
And then it was SCIENCE TIME again!!! Today we made sure we had our tools drawn and labeled in our journal! We talked about what each tool helped a scientist do! Hand lens: makes small things look bigger! Pipette: move small amounts of liquid from one place to another! Balance scale: to compare weight of objects! Goggles: protect our eyes! Journals are LOOKIN' GOOD!!! We had a few minutes to explore with our hand lenses again today! So I'll close with a few more pictures...Enjoy your evening! Hope to see many of you tomorrow...However, please see previous post if you are unable to make it!!!
Curriculum Night
Good Morning!
Many of you have said that you are unable to come to curriculum night Thursday, August 2, 2010. I completely understand (long weekends are hard to come by these days). However, the information we go over is very important...It strengthens that "bridge" between home and school...puts us all on the same page! Therefore we will be putting the powerpoint on the first grade website for you to go over. http://teachersites.schoolworld.com/webpages/Robertson_1st/
All handouts will be sent home next week! Have a wonderful weekend if I don't see you!
