Day 11...
and let me tell you...it was a BUSY day 11! But once again I was reminded how much I love teaching, teaching first grade and most of all teaching this bunch of little dragons! They continue to show me patience, maturity and just overall OUTSTANDING behavior!
Today we started our Literacy Assessments. I'm sure you are all familiar with our computer based assessment, Istation. I will definitely go over the results with you on conference day! From that I am able to start some reading assessments! I cannot wait to listen to your children read!
(reminder...if you have not signed up for a conference...PLEASE DO SO ASAP)
Available times are: 10:40, 11:40, 1:00, 1:40, 2:00, 2:20, 2:40, 3:00, 3:20, 3:40, 4:00, and 4:20
We have a new poem this week!
I'm Glad I'm Me
No on looks
The way I do.
I have noticed
That it's true.
No one walks the way I walk.
No one talks the way I talk.
No one plays the way I play.
No one says the things I say.
I am special.
I am me.
There's no one else
I'd rather be!
This week during thinking map time we are going to focus on comparing and contrasting ourselves with another friend in our class! So we will get to find out how much we are alike and how much we are different!
Your child should be becoming familiar with the circle map (defining), the bubble map (describing) and now the double bubble (comparing and contrasting) be sure to work this vocabulary into your language and conversations at home!
Next week during writing we will be using the maps to help us understand what a sentence is! It is going to take that old abstract, "a sentence is a complete thought" and make it more concrete! Look for lots of amazing writing coming soon! (Not that we don't already have some great writers...Gracie shares hers with us today! We are still focusing on details, details, details in our picture...Making sure we can see our characters, the setting and our event!
Gracie likes the headset! I think newscaster or maybe POP STAR!!!
Our bus evacuation drill was cancelled today due to...
It has been rescheduled for Sept. 20th! I know there are a few boys in particular that are excited about sitting and sliding out the back of the bus! (I must admit that is an awesome way to exit the bus!)
We worked on getting our calendar notebook caught up! A few more pages to glue in and we'll be ready to GO... This week we will talk a lot about place value 10's and 1's!
And...in science...WEATHER! Well...at least we get to experience something other than HOT or HOTTER! It's nice to see the rain during this unit!
Enjoy your evening! And as always, I'm here if you have questions or concerns and thank you for sharing your precious child with me!
