9-8-2010

Another BUSY, BUSY day in room 313!  We started our day just like any other day!  At about 9:30 we started introducing our workstations for a little "practice" time!  BUT we got a knock on the door...who was it?  Our favorite counselor, Mrs. O'Hearn! She said she would be in our class this morning at 9:45! WOO HOO we love  her lessons. Today she talked to us about being CONFIDENT first graders.
She read a book and we listened to a song all about being confident in our choices and being understanding and confident when we make choices that require a consequence. (Making our color change without an argument and using the consequence to change our choices) After all that cool stuff...she had MORE...BRACELETS that were reminders of what awesome people we are!

We colored, cut and taped them all over ourselves! We had a GREAT time with
Mrs. O'Hearn today!

Mathias was lucky enough to find a few spare minutes to get to an abc station and work on letters and sounds!
After lunch we talked again about bullying!  I talked with the kids about it not being tattling if someone is bothering them after they have asked them to stop.  If someone hurts them either emotionally or physically and they feel that it was on purpose then it definitely time to talk to the teacher!  We decided that it is BEST to tell the teacher immediately ...not wait til the next day!  I promised them that I would take care of them if it was the end of the day...I would make sure that they got home safe!!! Some of my friends reminded me that there should be NO BULLYING in our classroom because "we are a family...just like brothers and sisters..."  "We might  have arguments but we will always stick up for one another!"  I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!
And then...it was library time!  (not everyone remembered Wednesday is library day but we'll keep working on that)

Mrs. Biamonte gets very animated when she reads!
And....WE LOVE it!
Every Wednesday she reads us a story and then gives us a quick lesson on how to use the library. Today we learned all about using a shelf marker!  It helps us keep our place while we check to see if we want a particular book! Randi knows JUST how to use shelf markers!

After library it was MATH time...  We added straws to our calendar pocket chart. 1 group of 10 and 2 ones... we learned a song to help us with our odd and even numbers. (I will not put you through listening to me sing it...)
"There was a farmer who had a cow and even was his name-o" 0-2-4-6-8-0-2-4-6-8-0-2-4-6-8 and even was his name-o!
We worked on our calendar notebook and found out that two of our friends have already lost teeth this school year! We will continue to graph our number of teeth lost and our birthdays throughout the year!
And then we talked about place value.  We used the big dice to determine how many tens (pipe cleaners) and how many ones (fuzzy balls) to add to our chart. We then counted together to find our number!

Connor then reminded me that we needed to give I have...Who Has...another shot! We did and GUESS what! We beat the two minute mark! Everyone was on task listening and responding! WOO HOO...Treasure box here we come! :)
We talked about different kinds of weather today: Sunny, Rainy, Cloudy, Snowy and Windy!  HMMM what type of weather have we experienced the past two days??? VERY thankful for the reprieve during pick up today!
I want to express my thanks for all of your emails about changes in pick ups, absences and late arrivals! You guys are WONDERFUL!  I hope sweet Hayden is feeling better soon! We miss him in class! Have a great evening...Don't forget about Baskin Robbins PTA fund raiser!
