And...the caterpillars start changing...

Form, form a chrysalis,
I'm a different shape;
Hanging by a silken thread
Until I can escape.

Rest, rest, chrysalis
While I change inside;
Now at last my time has come
To be a butterfly.

This morning when we came in...our first caterpillar was hanging in the "J" man shape!  We had a look and whipped out our journals so we could record what we saw!

As  you can see not only are we recording our observations but we are venturing into the world of GRAPHIC novels...(written like a comic)...speeach bubbles and all! What fun we are having!
WELL...after lunch we came back and continued with our day! UNTIL...part way through math...I noticed some RAPID movement coming from the "J" man.  Sure enough he was spinning his chrysalis!  So we had to stop what we were doing in order to record what was happening! TWO entries in ONE DAY! Whew!!!

Butterfly Cycle
(Row, Row, Row Your Boat)

Hatch, hatch little egg,
I'm so very small.
Teeny tiny caterpillar,
You can't see me at all.

Crawl, caterpillar, crawl,
Munching on a leaf.
Crawling, munching, crawling,
munching,
Eat and eat and eat.

Diagram and our observations from Day 1

!!Crazy!!

Well, spring break came and went!  I hope everyone enjoyed their week!  I spent the first part of the week with my youngest nephew here.  Unfortunately, he was sick but that meant he got to stay a few extra days! They left on Wednesday and I packed up the other two and Gramma and headed to San Antonio for a little Sea World time! Needless to say...on Sunday I was ready to get back to school and a "normal" routine!  I thought about all my little dragons and sure did miss their smiles and hugs!
This week is kinda crazy from my stand point...Lots of deadlines...
However, the kids days should not be affected!  Since this is the last week of the 3rd 9 weeks I am doing some reading and math assessing.  I am so impressed with the progress of everyone!
We've had some changes in room 313 too!  Yesterday was Drake's last day.  He and his family moved over spring break and decided to transfer in district to his new school in order to make some friends before summer. Sad for us...BUT...today was the first day for our new friend Krista! She comes to us from San Antonio! We are looking forward to learning more about her!
Enjoy your evening!

Monday, March 7, 2011

Well...I'm so sorry...blogging has not been up to par lately.  We have been SO busy in room 313. Getting ready for open house is always a FUN time.  We have been reading, writing and learning all about the ocean! I hope you all will be able to join us on Thursday evening to see what's been going on!  I have so many pictures on the camera that have not been uploaded. I have a half finished valentine's day smilebox done.  (The camera's battery died that day...so I had to take pictures on my phone...WELL getting them from my phone to the computer was not an easy task...It took over TWO weeks for them to be sent! In the meantime I had to get a new phone!)  I would love to say that I will be getting caught up over spring break...BUT (fingers crossed) my sweet baby Thomas will be arriving this Thursday and leaving on Monday! On Wednesday, I will hit the road for San Antonio and Sea World with my two Texas Bubbas! So...not so sure there will be a lot of computer blogging time! BUT once we get back I promise I will TRY TRY TRY to be better!  I am LOVING all my little friends in room 313. It's so crazy to me that school is going by so quickly. I will be sending my "babies" onto second grade before I know it!
