PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
I have heard from 19 families! That is GREATNESS...I love that you all are so on top of things!
PTA
We have 15 families signed up! We need ONLY 5 more to reach our 100% goal! That Carnival recess is sounding like so much fun! If you do not send your form back with your first grade pup (maybe you sent it in with an older sibling or dropped it off in the office directly)...PLEASE let me know that you have joined! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
Handwriting
Today we started working in our Handwriting Without Tears book. We are starting with capital letters. Today was H,K,L,U,V,V,W,X,Y, and Z. These are starting corner capitals. Main focus is making sure we don't RUSH and we have no "floating" letters! We are working on writing posture as well...sitting on our bottom, feet to the ground, back straight...
Reader's Workshop
The book we are using this week is Friends by Helme Heine. It is about Rooster, Mouse and Pig. Today we talked about describing characters. (one of the ways we can respond to the books we read)
Since we are just learning about putting our responses into our journals we will be doing SEVERAL together...
Science
Some scientist's tools made their way to room 313 today! And WOW did I see 20 excited little scientists. And HEARD some amazing "discoveries"...
- "I discovered that if you hold the hand lens close nothing changes BUT if you pull it away things get bigger."
- "I discovered that if you feel the lens it has a hill in it."
- "I discovered it takes 2 small cups to fill the big cup."
- "I discovered the liquid comes out of the spray bottle differently if I open the sprayer or close it."

Spray Bottles
Goggles
Measuring tools
Pipettes
Moving a clear liquid from one container to another
Double Duty... Some FUN pictures of my little scientists!
Math
Our focus this week is creating, describing and identifying groups of tens and ones! Someone already has this concept DOWN!
- "We have 166 days of school left. Who can tell me how many tens are in 166? Uhm...16!" WOW
So from there I decided I would talk about the value of each of those digits! CRAZY smart these pups are! So many of them knew that the 6 in the tens place was really 60! Some are still working on the concept and that's OK! We will be talking a lot about place value this year!
!ENJOY YOUR EVENING!
